Minister of health, Osagie Ehanire has revealed during the daily Presidential Task Force briefing briefing on Thursday, that contrary to public perception, the Chinese medical experts who came into Nigeria to fight against COVID-19, are actually not guests of the Federal Government but CCECC, a construction company.
Ehanire, seemingly infuriated by the persistent inquisition from the press on the whereabouts of the foreign medical team, requested reporters not to bother his ministry over this.
Recall that the arrival of the Chinese medical team in April had generated a lot of controversy as Nigerians in their millions spoke out seriously against their coming to the country.
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) also did not hide their utmost dissatisfaction over the move which they tagged as unfortunate and embarrassing to the Association and other health workers who have sacrificed a lot to ensure the pandemic is brought to a halt even in spite of the unfavourable working conditions they have had to deal with.
The health minister however reveals that the Chinese medical experts would be sharing their experience after making progress in the fight against the virus.
In the health Minister’s words “I want to explain that first of all, I think not all of them are doctors and I heard that some of them are technicians but they are staff of CCECC”.
