The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the murder of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Egbe Edun in the state capital, Calabar.
This sad development was confirmed by the state’s command Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, in a telephone interview with the pressmen in Calabar.
Egbe Edun, according to the Police spokesperson, served in Borno State, but only came on Wednesday to see his wife and kids in Calabar before his shocking assassination. Until his death, he was a commander of the Police Mobile Force Squadron 73 in Magumeri, area of Borno state.
DSP Irene stated, “He is serving at Maiduguri, he just came to see his family, the information we got is that he arrived this morning at about 1 am in a commercial vehicle and he had already called his wife to pick him up at a particular spot,”
From information gathered, the deceased wife, on getting to the agreed pick-up spot, was shocked to meet his lifeless body instead.
“So we are suspecting it could be chance armed robbers but we are still investigating. The Cross Rivers Commissioner of Police has sent men of our Intelligence Bureau to go into the area where his body was found and we are currently investigating his death,” Ugbo said.
