A suspected kidnapper on Saturday met his waterloo after he was beaten merciless by some residents of Omuo Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti East Local Government area of Ekiti State, on suspicion of attempting to abduct a boy in the area.
According to information gathered, the suspect, a middle-aged-man was said to have been trailing a seven-year-old boy who was just returning from school at about 2:00 pm on Saturday, but luck ran out of him as he was allegedly noticed by a resident standing afar in the process of trying to drag the young boy into a nearby bush.
Following an alarm raised on his suspicious move, residents in the area were reported to have trooped to the scene, rescued the boy, and given the suspect a severe beating that left him unconscious before a police team came to the rescue.
This incident was later confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, ASP Sunday Abutu, who said the suspect died immediately he got to the police station.
Abutu stated that a chief in Iludofin quarters actually reported the incident to the police which it was already raging and his men acted promptly.
He the police team that went to the scene of the occurrence met a much-tensed situation, but their intention at that moment was to, first of all, take the suspect to the station for cover before transporting him to a clinic for medical attention. He, however, cautioned people against taking laws into their hands as it is an offence to carry out jungle justice on anyone.
