An officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was today rescued by some soldiers from the hands of hoodlums who attacked him around Jakande area in Lekki, at about 4pm, while on duty.

According to reports, the traffic control officer, while still directing movement of vehicles, was halted by a passerby who demanded that the moving cars be put on hold for him to cross to the other side of the road, a request which was rejected by the officer.
The LASTMA officer had told him to rather use the pedestrian bridge not too far from there.

Infuriated by the rejection, the man, joined by two others, were said to have pounced on the officer after few exchanges of words. The assailants where heard saying “we will soon chase you people (LASTMA) away the way we chased out the Police”.

In a backing video released, the LASTMA personnel was seen to have sustained head injury in the process. He was however rescued by some passing soldiers who succeeded in apprehended one of the assailants, while the others were able to escape on sighting the military men.
