It is no longer news that the recent EndSars protests, which rocked many cities in the country, was centered on the need for total reformation of the Nigeria Police Force; an agitation fueled by grievances of Nigerians over the ineptness of some personnel of the force, but the unfortunate occurrence of recent may not completely take away the positive side of the security apparatus as there exists of the near-demonized institution, some officers with reputable characters worthy of emulation.
Such is the case of a police team who won the hearts of many Nigerians on Thursday following their act of sincerity and professionalism displayed around Igando area of Lagos State to a woman who almost lost her purse containing money and a smart phone.
According to what was reported, the woman while on bike, unknowingly dropped her purse, but the patrol team, on sighting the purse and realizing what had happened, picked it up and chased after the woman, signaling to her to halt the ride.
But as is expected of Nigerians in such situations, one would have misconstrued their intentions to be geared towards another arrest without reason. Well, such was the thoughts running the mind of the said woman as rather than, stop, she instructed the rider to accelerate further.
To cut the short story shorter, the police team successfully caught up with the bike and handed over the red purse to the woman. The purse contained a sum of One Hundred and Fifteen Thousand Naira Only (N115,000) and a Tecno phone worth N95,000, and this was confirmed by the owner before the team went back to their duties.
This gesture by the said officers of the Nigeria Police Force is such that should be widely commended and encouraged. Such actions, if imbibed by other men of the force in any scenario that an opportunity like this presents, would further endear the police force to the general public.
