Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Cyril Okoro, has commended the National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Chief Tony Iju Nwabuike, for his efforts towards inducing peaceful coordination of activities among all chapters of the group.
The Police Commissioner made this remark when he received Nwabuike, along with some members and executives of the Apapa chapter of the association who paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Thursday 06, 2021.
Among the visiting executives were the Chairman Chief Sylvester Budu, Vice Chairman Alhaji Kayode Jeje-loye, Secretary Alhaji Abdurasaq Saheed Ishola, Assistant Secretary Chief Uba Lawrence, Financial Secretary Chief Joe Nnamocha, Alhaji Olodan Abdulkazeem and the PRO Emeka Mbachu. Others present were the Chairman of PTML Bishop Sunday Oyebola, Chairman elected of Seme Alhaji Sule Kachi and Coordinator – Compliance Seme Chief Onuoha, amongst others.

Addressing the group, Okoro said, “we thank you people, for the way you’ve been conducting yourselves and I pray you to continue to maintain this because If you have a leader that cannot be able to contain the excesses of members, then there is bound to be a problem.”
“This port is a cash cow of the Federal Government, and the revenue is dwindling for so many reasons, so let us not compound it because, when we compound it and government will not have money to render services to the people, all of us will be a victim”. So I pray that you continue to conduct yourselves in a peaceful and orderly manner so that we will be able to give you the right environment for you to operate your business.” Okoro stated.
The National President of ANLCA, Chief Tony, while thanking the Police Commissioner for honouring the Association’s request to pay a courtesy call on him, reiterated the group’s commitment towards operating within the ambit of the law.
While noting the misrepresentation of the ANLCA Apapa Chapter by some people not recognized under the constitution of the body, Chief Tony seized the opportunity of the meeting to formally introduce the current elected executives to the Commissioner saying any other person or group of persons parading themselves as ANLCA Apapa excos apart from these are impersonators.
He said, “If anybody comes to tell you that he is a chapter chairman, let him show proof of his certification by ANLCA bearing the signature of the President!”
“We have a procedure, and if anybody decides not to go through that procedure, I call that person a dissident and must be treated as such.” He declared.
The group also paid a visit to the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) wing of the Department of State Security (DSS) where they met with the Director, Mr Mohammed, who lauded the National President and Executives of ANLCA for creating an atmosphere of peace for the association to operate. This, he said, would further strengthen the relationship between the DSS and the Association to be able to work together within the dictates of the law.

Finally, the team rounded their tour with a visit to the office of the Nigerian Customs Service within the Port where they were able to address some of their members and stakeholders.
