The Nigeria Customs Strike Force team, Zone ‘A’ in Lagos, has recorded a significant feat in the fight to curtail the reprehensible activities of smugglers through the massive seizure of contra-ban goods worth N417,228,247 as total Duty Paid Value (DPV) and as well arrested three suspects in connection with the illegal activities.
In a briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, the CG Strike Force Coordinator, Zone ‘A’ Deputy Comptroller Ahmadu Bello Shuaibu said his team have been carefully checked and physical examinations conducted during various interceptions to nab those involve in nefarious activities in the zone.
This he attributed to the renewed strength and professional conduct displayed in the curtailing of the activities of smugglers.
He said, “The following among others were found to have contravened Section 46, sub-section b,c,e and f of the Customs and Excise Management Act, CAP, C45 LFN of 2014. 1,185 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), 2,147 cartons of Cosmetics, 1,320 bales of textile materials, 1,956 cartons of new shoes and vehicles of different kinds with a Duty Paid Value of N417,228,247″.
Shuaibu, however, appealed to the media to support the Customs in sensitizing the public on the importance and benefits of compliance in doing legitimate trade and also the disadvantages of engaging in illegal trade and smuggling, adding that, if the activities of smugglers are left unchecked it would have a dire consequence on the economy.
