Some notorious hoodlums in the early hours of today, Monday, attacked some officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Command at Adekunle, Yaba.

This development occurred around 10am.
According to information gathered, the hoodlums, who operated in groups, attacked the officers while discharging their duties with various dangerous weapons.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has reacted to the violent attack on its officers describing the incidence as unwarranted and unfortunate.
In a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi (mnipr), the Lagos State Command condemned the violent attack carried out by some protesters on some police officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Command at Adekunle.
According to Olumuyiwa, the #EndSars protest is gradually becoming violent and it got heightened today when violent protesters descended on some policemen attached to the RRS of the State Command.
Narrating the ordeal, he said, “The ninety-seven (97) policemen, who were being conveyed to their various beats on routine relief duties across the state, came across the violent protesters who started shouting “No Police, No Police”, and stoned them. After the attacks, nineteen (19) of the policemen were critically injured while 4 police vehicles were damaged”.

Speaking further, the Police Spokesperson disclosed, “The policemen, who scampered for safety, were eventually rescued and rushed to the Police Clinic at Panti, Yaba, for medical attention”.
Olumuyiwa, however, urged officers and men of the command to remain calm while they continue to manage the situation professionally, as usual in the state.
He further appealed to community leaders, parents and guardians, traditional rulers and religious leaders, to caution the youths against violence and any act that is capable of aggravating tension in the state as such will be counterproductive.
