In a swift reaction to the directive issued by the Inspector General of Police, Muammed Abubakar Adamu, placing some restrictions on the activities of some Tactical Squads of the Force, especially the controversial FSARS, The Lagos State Police Commissioner, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has vowed to ensure total compliance is achieved with tough actions to be taken on defaulting police officers.
In a statement released by the Police Public relations Officer for the Lagos State Commissioner, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Commissioner assured the public that there would be no hiding place for any erring Police officers and men who disobey the directives in Lagos State. he swore to make sure such perpetrators are arrested, dismissed and prosecuted.
CP Odumosu, while re-echoing the directive of the Inspector General, Adamu, immediately ordered hi monitoring team to go after, arrest and prosecute any personnel of police Tactical Squads, including Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), SARS, Special tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence response Team, (IRT), Anti Kidnapping, Anti Cultism, or Anti Robbery team under any classification from Lagos Command or any formations within the State, engaging in stop and search and any other low-risk operations like patrol and operating on mufti, against the directives of the Inspector General of Police.
The Lagos Police chief also declared that there will be adequate punishments for any Area Commander and Divisional Police Officer where police harassment, brutality or extortion occurs.
On the use of commercial buses or unbranded vehicles for operations, the commissioner warned that such must only be based strictly on approval personally by the Commissioner of Police, most especially for the purpose of surveillance or decoy only.
