The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has finally suspended the ongoing strike action which had lingered for a nine month period of time.
The suspension of strike by the academic body was announced by AUU president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi on Wednesday morning in Abuja.
Although the union did not specify the exact date of full academic resumption due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19 in the country, Ogunyemi stated that the workers are ready to work.
He said, “As far as we are concerned, we are ready to resume work. Let the government do what is needed to ensure safety. We insist that the COVID-19 protocol should be observed.
According to Ogunyemi, the decision was taken by the National Executive Committee of the Union while they are still monitoring the compliance level of the Federal Government based on all agreements reached.
