In the words of a renowned Greek storyteller, Aesop, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted”, so the saying goes about a team of police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) whose honest and professional conduct has endeared the Nigeria Police Force to the hearts of millions of Nigerians both home and abroad.
It would be recalled that StarMedia Renaissance, on Thursday 19th of November, reported an incident in which a team of four police officers operating along LASU Iba Road, in Lagos, sighted a woman on a bike who unconsciously dropped her purse containing money, picked up the purse, and chased after the bike just to return the purse unconditionally to the owner.

The officer’s goodwill has eventually paid off as the “Silent Heroes Awards Initiative” on Thursday 26 November 2020, awarded the three personnel of the team with the Nigeria Silent Heroes (NSH) awards to celebrate them for their act of ingenuity and admirable conduct and also to encourage other officers into imbibing such deed of professionalism.
The celebrated team comprises of ASP Christopher Odemili, Inspector Okwute Happy, and Sgt. John Chindo.

Presenting the award to the team on Thursday at Rapid Response Squad (RRS) premises Alausa Ikeja-Lagos, the convener of NSH, Odita Sunday, commended the officers for their exemplary gesticulation. He praised them for bringing dignity to their families and advised other officers of the force to tap from such behaviours in their dealings with the general public which the police body is instituted to protect.

“On behalf of the silent heroes award Initiative, I present to you “Silent Hero in Integrity and Leadership” presented to Okwute Happy, who, while on patrol at LASU Iba recovered a purse which fell from the bag of a motorbike passenger containing N115, 000 courtesy of Silent Heroes Awards Initiative”. Odita stated.
The team was also presented with gifts and a medal of honour to corroborate the importance of the dedication of the officers.
