The three arms of government (the legislative, executive, and judiciary), have the fundamental purpose to which they are established.
Each arm acts as a watchdog on the others for checks and balances.
We have witnessed many times in this country when the court gives a judgment and the executive lawlessly stands in the way to disobey the courts, which is performing its constitutional purpose of establishment.
El-Zakzaky and his wife have been discharged and acquitted. I hope they will be released this time.
Mr. Zakzaky and his wife have been standing trial in the court for the past 4 years on an eight-count charge of alleged culpable homicide, disruption of the public peace, and unlawful assembly among others leveled against them by the Kaduna State Government. Husband and wife were hitherto granted bails on different occasions by the court but the government refused to obey the law.
Judiciary is becoming useless every day because of the lack of willingness of the executive to obey the law.
Lawlessness from the side of government does not brew anything but protests or civil disobedience, which has sent many agitators to their early graves; as the government often than not sends trigger-happy police officers to dispatch lawful protesters in their (government) bid to maintain law and order, an offense they are culpable.
I wish the Shi’a leader and his wife are allowed to go this time around so more souls would not be lost to government failings.
