In obedience to a high court restraining order issued against the interim management committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission led by embattled chairman Daniel Pondei, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of an interim administrator to oversee affairs of the organisation.
A statement issued by the presidency on Saturday disclosed that Mr Effiong Okon Akwa, who is the Acting Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission, has now been appointed to take over as an interim head of the NDDC pending completion of an ongoing forensic audit of the commission.
Mr Okon is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The statement says, ‘The development became necessary as a result of plethora of litigation and a restraining order issued recently against the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC by a Federal High Court in Abuja”.
