Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari, has congratulated the newly elected president of the United States of America, Mr Joe Biden on victory in the just-concluded elections.
Joe Biden had defeated current President Donald Trump to emerge victorious in a tough election that saw the winner pooling the highest number of votes for a presidential candidate.
Buhari, while congratulating the elected president says his (Biden) election is coming at a time of uncertainty and fears in world affairs. He said, “his election is a reminder that democracy is the best form of government because it offers the people the opportunity to change their government by peaceful means”.
While highlighting the success of the just-concluded elections in the American country, Buhari stated “that the most powerful group are not the politicians, but voters who can decide the fate of the politicians at the polling booth. The main fascination of democracy is the freedom of choice and the supremacy of the will of the people.”
Speaking further, Nigeria’s president noted that, “Respect for the will of the people is the very reason why democracy remains the best form of government, despite its limitations from one polity to another, and from one society to another.”
He, however, urged the Democrats candidate to deploy his vast experience in tackling the negative consequences of nationalist’s politics which he noted to have created “division and uncertainties”, while also imploring the elected president to introduce greater engagement with Africa on the basis of reciprocal respect and shared interest.
With the victory recorded at the polls, Biden will now reign as the 46th elected president of the United States of America, while his Vice elect, Mrs Kamala Harris, is coming in on a historic ground of being the first woman of colour to attain the height of becoming the Vice president of the great American country.
