The election which brought the executive Governor of Bayelsa State Duoye Diri, has been invalidated by the State Gubernatorial Petition Tribunal.
The nullification was based on a petition by the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party, which raised complaints about undue exclusion from participation in the election.
This ruling is coming just three days after the tribunal dismissed three other petitions against the election of Mr. Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The tribunal orders a fresh election to be conducted within 90 days.
The Governor however can still challenge the ruling of the tribunal at the appeal court.
Updated: Governor Duoye Diri in his reaction to the news of the invalidation of his election says he has instructed his lawyer to file an appeal.
His words, “we trust in the judiciary and we are appealing the judgement. With God on our side, we will get justice. This is a court of first instance and I have instructed our lawyers to file an appeal. We have a right of appeal, even up to the supreme court.”
