In what may best be described as a daring move unexpected of any proscribed group, a set of bandits today stormed the permanent campus of the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna State, killing two officers while successfully abducting four others.
The bandits, information revealed, arrived in a vehicle all dressed in military uniforms and headed straight to the officers’ quarters after having gained entrance to the academy through the security gate.
They opened fire intermittently when they arrived, killing two officers (a Major and a Squadron Leader), and subsequently abducting another Major and three other officers through the academy’s neighboring bush.
The sound of shooting, on the other hand, alerted NDA Quick Response Team members, who arrived on the spot but were unable to rescue the kidnapped officer since the bandits had already fled with the victim.
A joint team of security personnel has initiated an inside-the-bush manhunt, including air surveillance, in the hopes of apprehending the bandits and rescuing the kidnapped officer.
The Nigerian Defence Academy lies just a few meters from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization Afaka in Kaduna State’s Igabi local government area, where 39 students were kidnapped by gunmen in March.
